Vertigo is the sensation of spinning. You may feel like you are spinning or like the room around you is spinning. Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV) is one of the most common types of vertigo and typically causes dizziness when the head is moved into certain positions such as looking up or down. Causes include inner ear infections or disorders, migraines, tumors, stroke, head injury, and more.
Vestibular rehabilitation is an exercise-based program to improve balance and reduce dizziness and falls. This includes equilibrium problems, ataxia (difficulty walking) and exercises to train the eyes to re-connect with the brain.
Balance disorders, gait disturbances and falls are common in the aging adult. PT’s are experts, trained to assess these types of issues and design an intervention to reduce the risk of falling.
At Victoria Physical Therapy, we will assess and determine the causes of your dizziness/vertigo/balance disorder and determine the best way to treat it. We will also address gait stability and your risk of falling and can help provide a program to reduce your fall risk.
